Fun PICNIC event

Women from across the Diocese of the Rio Grande (El Paso to Gallup) gathered via Zoom individually and in small groups to have a Picnic on July 24.

We had goodies from recipes provided ahead of time, and made Candle S'Mores. We also played Episcopal Church Trivia and Picnic Trivia. Did you know 'Picnic' is from the French 'picque nique'? That is translated as 'of little importance'. We all decided that Picnics are of great importance. Congrats to the door prize winners: Becky D. (Holy Family, Santa Fe) for the most distant summer memory--of time in Canada, Carrie S. (Holy Spirit, Gallup) for Episcopal trivia, Rita P. (St. Michael's, ABQ) for Picnic Trivia, Camille D. (Holy Family, Santa Fe) for the largest in-home group (4)!

You can watch the video of the fun:

Since our PICNIC represented the idea that we are "Partners in Christ, Neighbors in Community," we had a discussion of ways we already are, and can continue to be active in our churches and communities.

Some ideas:
Partnering with Schools to find out what they need (school supplies, backpacks, etc.)
Collections of feminine products and/or underwear for domestic violence and/or homeless shelters, and maybe putting them in purses,
Having a church parking lot picnic,
Many churches already have collections of items like shoes, food, clothing for various ministries,
Becoming a partner (as we have in the past) with Borderlands or Indigenous ministries in the DRG,
Working for equity in things like water on the reservation.

Watch for ways we may implement these in the future. If you have other suggestions and/or ways to work on these outreach ideas, contact Cindy.
