On a Pilgrimage

The Women’s Ministry of the Diocese hosted over three dozen women, and men, at Bishop’s Ridge for Pilgrimage, the Lent retreat. Bishop Michael and the Rev. Meg Hunn were our retreat leaders for two days of reflection and renewal in the beauty of the mountains.

More than half of the group, and a few others, participated in the min-pilgrimage to the Santuario de Chimayo on Friday, March 29. Some picked up trash along the way, others took turns carrying the cross, while others walked and prayed.

Bishop Hunn celebrated Eucharist in the outside chapel at the Santuario following the walk. In his sermon, he talked about various reasons for pilgrimage, because we are all on our own pilgrimage through life.

Friday evening began with dinner and sharing of our favorite scripture and prayers for the weekend. It culminated in an interactive and inspirational Way of the Cross created by the Rev. Meg Hunn. Participants were invited to make a cross from sticks, taste vinegar, and other activities as we made the Way of the Cross pilgrimage. Following the Way of the Cross, everyone was invited into the Great Silence until Saturday morning.

On Saturday morning, the Rev. Meg Hunn celebrated Eucharist. Her sermon introduced us to Finding Dory. She used the image of Dory’s parents building endless shell paths to their house so that she could find her way home to remind us that God does the same thing. Like the father of the Prodigal Son, our God is waiting for us with open arms.

Throughout the retreat there was plenty of time for participants to spend time with God by hiking, journaling, making Anglican prayer beads, and visiting with new friends at Bishop’s Ridge/Camp Stoney.

Women's Ministry in the DRG in 2019

The Way of Love is the Presiding Bishop’s invitation to participate in being the Episcopal branch of the Jesus Movement. The 7 disciplines are Bless, Pray, Worship, Learn, Turn, Rest, and Go. In 2019, Women’s Ministry events will highlight various parts of this initiative.
Join us on this journey at one or more of these exciting events!

Lent 2019: Pilgrimage, the annual Lent retreat, open to men also, will be March 29-30 at Camp Stoney. Retreat speakers are the Rev. Meg and Bishop Michael Hunn. There is an, optional, mini-pilgrimage to Chimayo on Friday, March 29. During the retreat on Saturday, March 30, Bishop Michael and Meg Hunn will invite us to consider our life-long pilgrimages. There will be time for Prayer and Worship in several forms.

Blessed to be a Blessing: Summer 2019 will be a chance to focus on the Way of Love mandate to Rest; and discover ways we are Blessed to be a Blessing to one another in sharing our stories, mentoring, and encouraging the women in our lives.

Entertaining Angels Unaware at the Bosque Center, Nov. 17-18 will  continue the Way of Love conversation with opportunities to Learn about the ‘angels’ we meet. We will consider how to Turn (or Re-turn) and Go out to the world on the Way of Love
